Windward is a procedurally generated co-op game where players can embark on various nautical adventures. Players create their own faction and explore a unique world filled with opportunities for trading, questing, combat, and exploration. They gather resources, upgrade their ships, and encounter towns seeking assistance. As players progress, they face increasingly challenging pirates and unlock new abilities. Helping towns grow unlocks ship upgrades such as fast schooners, heavy galleons, or powerful ships of the line. The game features an AI system that reacts to player actions, with pirates adhering to the same rules and potentially becoming fearful of a strong reputation. Players can also encounter friendly AI who choose to assist them on their journeys.
