In The Outlast Trials, players are involuntarily recruited as human guinea pigs by the Murkoff Corporation during the Cold War era to undergo unethical experiments involving brainwashing and mind control. Players must survive these trials, which consist of story-driven therapies called "Trials" and shorter challenges known as "MK-Challenges," by evading enemies, hiding, and utilizing tools to enhance their stealth capabilities. The game allows for solo or cooperative play with up to four players, though teamwork is highly encouraged. Players can customize their characters, decorate their cells, and collect evidence of Murkoff's malpractice. The Outlast Trials feature intense violence, gore, graphic sexual content, and strong language, as well as flashing lights that may trigger seizures in some individuals.
