Sunset Overdrive is a single-player action game set in the year 2027 where Sunset City has been overrun by toxic mutants after a contaminated energy drink turns its citizens into monstrous beings. Players take on the role of an ordinary citizen who embraces the chaos and uses their newfound freedom to fight back against the mutant hordes. The open world allows for non-traditional traversal with grinding, vaulting, and wall-running, enabling players to navigate the city in a unique and dynamic way. Players can collect and upgrade a vast arsenal of unconventional weapons, ranging from dynamite to harpoons, to defeat enemies in explosive and creative ways. The game also features two bonus expansions, Mystery of Mooil Rig and Dawn of the Rise of the Fallen Machines, as well as a Weapons Pack for additional firepower.
